Audio Evolution was an underfunded start-up with a vision of being one of the first direct-to-download audio companies. It produced no hard goods itself, but did license those rights to others. Five of the eight titles that Audio Evolution published are still available in CD editions from Gildan Media which is distributed by Hachette. Audio Evolution’s genesis was from an editorial perspective, to acquire the little gems that the audiobook business which was too busy with the business of audio to notice. It was about a point of view—scientific, political, moral, perhaps even spiritual. On a personal level, it was about returning to my creative, artistic roots—and on that level it was a great success. Two AudioFile Earphone Award Winners and a Publishers Weekly Listen Up Award, if you measure success by the opinion of others. These eight titles are Audio Evolution’s legacy, for now, as production has been indefinitely suspended. The owner/operator has returned to the business of audiobooks refreshed and renewed.
